Each Spring we typically take in rescue kittens and foster some critical cases so they don’t wind up in a kill shelter. While we do not have official non-profit status, we foster for many agencies that do. This means we provide housing, vet services, food, treatment and love for all the cats and kittens that we take in until they are adopted. If animal fosters didn’t exist, many animals would just be euthanized – primarily because kittens require feeding every few hours and it is beyond the ability for shelter staff to keep up with. It is a mission of love and amazing rewards to see these animals go to wonderful loving homes. 100% of the donations that we receive goes to the care of the animals, and to the adoption fees for many of the pets. Our goal is to save them, get them healthy and happy and to place them in an indoor-only home with someone that will love them forever!
We normally don’t solicit donations, but this year has been a rough one with so many intakes sick from extended chilly temps. If you would like to donate, ANY amount is greatly appreciated. Kittens always need milk, fresh fleece and toys and every little bit helps. Thank you so much for helping us help them!
We are 100% self-funded, and your donations help so much in getting our rescued kittens fed, healthy, bouncy and ready for forever homes! (Thank You!!!)
Just took in Winnie and her three kittens who are about 5 weeks old. Sweet Winnie has vestibular syndrome, which effects the inner ear, and causes extreme imbalance, eyes that constantly dart back and forth and a jolting, tilting head. It is super disturbing to watch, but the good news is that it is temporary and with antibiotics goes away in a few weeks. Am giving her meds and lots of love. Her kittens are in an enclosure right next to her so they can see, touch and smell each other until mom is healthy again!
Just took in Stella, a super pretty light colored calico who is pregnant. Not sure how far along she is, but she is getting wider by the day 🙂
Got a text message about a kitten that was found at Hyperion Waste Treatment facility. All of the sewage for the City of Los Angeles goes to this facility for treatment, and it is a very toxic environment – and certainly no place for a kitten. Drove there after midnight as soon as the text came in, and the sweet little female kitten could barely open her eyes, was covered with fleas so bad that they had chewed the skin raw around her eyes. She was skin and bones. Got her home, cleaned her up, took her to the vet and just a few weeks later she is super healthy and a ton of fun. HUGE thanks to the wonderful folks at Hyperion for taking the time to put her in a box and call. They saved her life!
Great News! After a rough spring – Steak Fry was recently spayed and is spending time with a prospective furrever home! She spent the last six weeks recovering and playing with the kitties in our gen-pop. She is a super sweetie!
SilverBelle and her four kittens Mank, Stu, IsabelleGorilla and Boris have been stars of the live kitten-cam Alpine Shack for the last month and a half and are getting ready for snip, chip and adoption! You can watch them on the live cams here:
We will have a link up soon when they are available to adopt!
On March 30th I made the 64 mile drive out to Devore Animal Shelter in San Bernardino to pick up a mama kitty + 6 kittens to foster. There happened to be another stray mama + 5 kittens… so I took her also. I will have cameras streaming once I get both moms + kittens settled.
The one mom I have named Steak Fry. She has 5 kittens… one light calico, one dark calico, one grey/beige and two cream color which I have been told will be Siamese! Her cam is live right now… she has the sniffles so I am giving her antibiotics and am hoping she gets better ASAP! Her live cam is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVQk0n21vd8
The second mom is named Silver Bell, she has 6 kittens, two grey and 4 black. All fit as a fiddle.
Her cam will be up this week!
The wonderful folks over at “Shudder” the online horror movie streaming network are borrowing our rescue kittens for the day to promote their awesome streaming channel. As a “thanks” they are spreading the word about our kittens and their adoptions. So far we have 4 of FiFi’s magnificent 7 kittens adopted! 3 to go which is making out rule of “only adopting in pairs” a challenge… but we will figure it out!
You can watch the kittens live on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/shudder/ –
Here is the cast of kittenz! The biggest way to help us is through donations! Vet visits, de-worm, spay & neuter are the big items, but food & litter and lots of fun toys are daily needs 🙂 – to donate click here!
Cashmere has been adopted!
Kristie “Smudge” has been adopted!
Ozzy has been adopted!
Leo “Claude” has been adopted!
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to help FiFi and her 7 kittens. I didn’t want to publish too much until everyone was over the hurdle, but I want you know know that FiFi and a few of the babies needed some immediate care after they were born which resulted in some pretty chunky vet bills. Your donations have helped SO MUCH! Claude was scratched in a nipple fight before his eyes were open and his one eye got infected (see gross pic below). It was very sad, but we got him to the vet right away, got him some eye-goop and now he’s 100% fine and charging hard!
Babies are fat and happy! Poor Claude had an eye infection before his eyes were even open. Thx to donations, got him to vet and he’s 100% a perfect little kitten! Thank you!
The magnificent 7 will be one month old this Sunday, and have just started venturing away from their sleeping den, playing, bitings and acting like a gaggle of kittens! We have 4 live cameras, and if you get a chance you can watch them here: http://fifi.shread.net , they are just adorable! We still have 6-ish more weeks before the babies will be big enough to be spayed / neutered. Food for FiFi who eats a whopping 8-10 cans a day to supply milk for her growing hungry kids, litter and everything for the little monsters are daily needs, and we still so appreciate your donations. We have homes for FiFi & Napoleon, Smudge and Cashmere, and the final four ( 2 black kittens and two grey/white stripey kittens ) will be adopted in pairs only after spay neuter. Will be tweeting more when it gets close to that time for adoptive parents.
Again, thank you so much to everyone who has, those who continue to donate. The neighborhood and community has come together in an amazing way to help this homeless pregnant kitty have a safe home, a safe birth to her kittens… and the ability to make sure they have whatever they need to be healthy happy kittehs! You all are saviors!
Hi! I’m Fifi. The nice neighbor-ladies who were feeding me noticed one day that I had put on a few lbs. Knowing it wouldn’t be safe for me to have baby kittehs outside on the mean streets of Venice, they snagged me and took me to a foster-lady who gave me a nice secluded room where I could safely have my babies, get us all spayed & neutered and (paws crossed) find forever homes! On Feb 21st I popped out 7 beautiful little kittens, 4 boys and 3 girls. They won’t open their eyes for ten days, and will nurse off me for 4-6 weeks before chowing down on their own. When they reach 3 lbs. they can get spayed or neutered and then will be adopted in pairs only to indoor only homes. While the ladies have been awfully generous to me, so far the vet bills are creeping up past $600. That’s a lot of pickled herring!!! If you would like to help with food, litter, de-wormies, toys and things we can knock onto the floor, feel free to donate any amout to email@example.com and foster mommy will make sure we are healthy and have full bellies until we find our forever homes! Vet bills… blech!
First Vet visit…. hey I’m cookin a few of those!
The doc said 5 kittens, *maybe* 6. Pffffff …. FiFi don’t play!
New foster mom sleeps on my bed with me, nice of her.
So I can’t see my knees… doesn’t mean I can’t mix it up with the rubber ball!
Limited scope of mobility is constricting my bath time.
I’m all up in foster-mom’s grill.
